I first started exploring game development when I was almost 10 years old. It was then that I began using Adobe Photoshop 7.0 to create new skins and textures for id Tech 3 games. Later on, I experimented with tools like Game Maker to see how I can get control over the sprites I was painting. I also dabbled with a little bit of Python and C to create text adventures and a variety of small apps in high school.
In college, I knew I wanted to pursue some kind of career in software. After all, my family had computers around for me ever since I can remember.
A lot of that interest, however, was through the games that I grew up with too. I have a strong belief in the power of worldbuilding, the potential symbiosis between how players interface with the experience and whatever sandbox a deep premise can present to those players. Some of my favorite gaming memories were formed as a consequence of being fully immersed in the fantasy, from the feeling of being enveloped in another universe to experiencing substantive feedback by my actions in that world. Not to belabor this too much longer - when that combination of immersion and feedback is uniquely symbolic of the game's central conceit, it can be really special.
In my first year of software engineering, I explored OOP and a few basic design patterns. I also had the opportunity to lead a freshman team at Michigan Tech's Husky Game Development Enterprise. After some consideration, I ended up moving to online learning with Game Software Development as my major in early 2018. I graduated from Baker College in summer 2022, and have since completed a multitude of smaller games.
I've challenged myself in practicing a wide range of skills, from programming, 3D modeling, texturing, animation, level/environment design, and writing. I hope to challenge myself even further by practicing those skills on a more collaborative basis in the pursuit of great games. I am grateful for every opportunity I am given to go behind-the-curtain in gaming... and if you've made it this far, thanks for reading.
